What is Colostrum?

Colostrum is the first milk of all mammals, including humans, and is given to newborns during the neonatal period for fast growth and the build-up of the body’s defenses. Colostrum contains amino acids, vitamins, minerals and antibodies, which are able to support the immune system. Apart from growth factors, enzymes and vitamins, colostrum also contains immunoglobulins, lacto-ferrin, proline-rich polypeptides (=PRP) and leukocytes.
